McMullin x Double Rugs Collab | New Zealand Washable Wool Rug
When McMullin joined forces with Double Rugs, we set out to create a collection that would seamlessly blend sustainable luxury with practical, modern design. The result is the Awa Collection—an innovative line of rugs that harmonise natural materials, New Zealand heritage, and contemporary functionality.
The partnership began with a shared vision: to create beautiful, long-lasting rugs that meet the needs of modern homes while remaining deeply rooted in sustainability. McMullin is known for its focus on craftsmanship and timeless design, while Double Rugs has mastered the art of creating machine-washable rugs that simplify home care without compromising on style. Together, we explored how to merge these strengths into a collection that embodies the best of both worlds—luxurious yet effortlessly practical.
The name Awa—which means “river” in Māori—pays tribute to the landscape and culture of New Zealand, where McMullin’s founder, Alice, was born and raised. Awa is more than just a collection; it’s a celebration of Alice’s connection to her homeland, inspired by the Māori tradition of whakapapa, which speaks to the interconnectedness between people, land, and water. The abstract shapes and earthy tones of the collection reflect the fluid movement of rivers winding through the lush New Zealand countryside, symbolising life, growth, and the constant flow of nature.
Each piece in the collection is crafted from the finest pure New Zealand wool and organic cotton, chosen for their softness, durability, and alignment with our commitment to sustainability. The rugs are certified by Oeko-Tex Standard 100, ensuring that they are free from harmful chemicals, making them safe for both children and pets.
